Frequently Asked Questions #
TrimUI Brick – Common Questions #
Can I change the background music on the TrimUI Brick?
Yes! Many of the UI elements can be changed to your preferences. The BG Music should be formatted as a 44100khz MP3 and placed in the folder with the name of the theme you are currently using on your SD card. If using the Theme “TRIMUI Blue” then you would overwrite the old MP3 File in SDCARD/Themes/TRIMUI Blue/sound/ and copy your new tune named “bgm.mp3”. That is where you will find “bgm.mp3” files in any of the 3 TRIMUI Theme folders.
How do I customise the appearance of the TrimUI Brick menu?
There are four default themes available on the stock TrimUI software. These are located in the settings on your device. If you want to add new themes, you can find them online and drag them into the “Themes” folder on your SD card. There isn’t a hugely active community creating themes for TrimUI Brick stock OS, but there are some community members who have created packs, like in this Reddit thread.
Which OS is best for the TrimUI Brick?
The stock OS for the TrimUI Brick is going to provide one of the most stable experiences, and also offers support for Portmaster. However, NextUI is often recommended, with MuOS praised most recently. It’s worth looking into compatibility before deciding, as each OS has its drawbacks.
Can I connect the TrimUI Brick to a TV/Monitor?
The USB-C port is for charging, data transfer, and OTG (controllers) only. It does not support video output.
How do I add games to my TrimUI Brick?
- Insert your microSD card into an SD card reader
- Insert the card reader into a free USB port on your laptop / PC
- Navigate to the “Roms” folder on your MicroSD card
- Drag and drop the games you want into the corresponding console folder
What are the drawbacks of using the TrimUI stock OS?
Stock OS does provide a good start to using the TrimUI Brick, and it will suffice for most people. However, MinUI may provide several improvements to the UI, and many people say it provides a snappier and cleaner experience. The stock OS also doesn’t support Syncthing out of the box, which you may want for gamesaves – but this is easy to add with BrickTools.
Why is my TrimUI Brick crashing on boot / not showing games?
If you didn’t buy your Brick from GameSwap, there’s a good chance it came with a cheap SD card. These are prone to failure due to poor quality. We recommend an SD card from a reputable brand like Sandisk or Samsung. With that, you can download the latest TrimUI Brick Firmware and install it. Please see our guide on updating / installing TrimUI firmware for full instructions.
